A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING MR. TERRY HOUZAH FOR HIS OUTSTANDING FOOTBALL CAREER AT MISSISSIPPI VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY.

WHEREAS, Mr. Terry Houzah, a linebacker, has had an outstanding football career at Mississippi Valley State University; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Houzah, the son of Mr. Tyler Hunt, Jr., and Mrs. Ruth Williams, is a criminal justice major at Mississippi Valley State University; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Houzah, a native of Rolling Fork, Mississippi, was a standout in football at Rolling Fork High School where he received All-State, Clarion-Ledger All-State, All-Region and All-District honors; and

WHEREAS, throughout his career at Mississippi Valley State University, Mr. Houzah has been named a three-time All-SWAC performer, a three-time Black College All-American, a two-time SWAC Defensive Player of the Year, a two-time NCAA I-AA All American, a Burger King I-AA All American, and he was selected to play in the nationally televised Blue-Gray All-Star game; and

WHEREAS, a remarkable linebacker and valuable asset to the Mississippi Valley State University defense, Mr. Houzah had a total of 355 tackles during three seasons; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of his phenomenal football career at Mississippi Valley State University, the school retired Mr. Houzah's Number "56" at ceremonies on campus on Saturday, February 20, 1999; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Houzah has developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and his activities and attitude reflect great credit on his team and his coaches and bring honor to Mississippi Valley State University; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the young people of our state, who are its future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we commend and congratulate Mr. Terry Houzah for his outstanding football career at Mississippi Valley State University and for displaying tireless devotion to his athletic endeavors and extend to him our heartiest wishes for many years of success, happiness, peace and joy.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Terry Houzah and members of the Capitol Press Corps.
